Ammunition Review

I am getting ready to conduct and write an ammunition review for a company, which will be posted on USAcarry.com.

I am looking for feed back from the readers on USAcarry as to what they would like to see, done during the ammunition tests?

I cant disclose what company it is at this time, but they produce new ammunition and re-manufactured ammunition their handgun line of ammunition included the following calibers: .380-Auto, 9mm, .38spl, .357mag, .40 S&W, 10mm, .44mag, .45 Auto, and .45 Long Colt; their line of rifle ammunition is in the following calibers: 5.56x45mm, .223 Remington, .300 AAC Blackout, .308 Win, .50 BMG. At this point I am not sure which calibers or types of ammunition they will be submitting but it could range from duty grade ammunition to practice ammunition in any of the calibers I listed.

Thanks in advance

I'd like to know if their .223/5.56x45mm are loaded differently. I have a local reloader near me here who, when I call to ask about availability, says, "They're the same. 5.56 is just loaded a little bit hotter." Umm....yeah, right. Later.

What I am interested in is 5.56x45mm NATO XM855 rounds. Steel-core, penetrator bullets.

I have no objection to reloaded cases, as long as the price isn't of the stratospheric variety.

ETA: I'd also need to know if/that they can keep up with demand during this shortage crisis.

The difference between the 5.56 and the .223 is a good question, and I will definitely see what I can find out through my contact. I will talk with my point of contact about this question.

With the large number of sub compact carry guns in 9mm, 40, and 45acp it would be nice to see ammo that's tailored to the short (3") barreled guns

Having a data base of testing of this type of ammo used with the shorties (3 inch barrels), & showing the ability of self defense rounds to actually expand when shot at true combat ranges of 5 ~ 30' would be nice.

Going a bit further...A comparison to these sub compacts against full sized (4~5' barreled) guns showing terminal performance differences using the same ammo would also be something many people would want to see.

If the ammunition company is willing to cover the cost on the Ballistic Gel this could be a possibility.

Not that ballistic gelatin testing is a panacea, but unless the ammo is for target shooting, I'm not sure I see the value of a review without terminal ballistic data. As calibrated ballistic gelatin is the standard media, that would be the expectation.

Calibrated SIM-TEST would work as well.

Well at this point I can not say what caliber(s), type(s), and amount the company is willing to commit to this test, these first two items are important when I am talking with my contact person. Only two posters expressed interests in specific calibers/bullet combinations so far. But if there is an overwhelming interest in one or two specific calibers, I will pass this on and we will see how things play out...........

As far as the types of tests to be conducted it will depend on what we are testing.

I'd second those calling for gel test data. Unless the ammo is meany solely for putting holes in paper, gel tests are necessary. Doesn't have to be as extensive as the FBI protocols, but perhaps tests in bare gelatin (to establish a baseline) and heavy clothing might suffice.
