Ammo

Having tried to buy ammo on line,& in stores has been a trying experience to say the least.
But it is truly amazing to me that all of the ammo in the US, possibly billions of rounds were bought up in such a short period of time. Just shows what gun owners can accomplish.
Wonder if anyone has estimated the amount of $$$ this fiasco has put into the economy. Every web site I go to is out of everything any of us want. Think we've really made a huge statement here.
Since the ANTI'S think we're all a bunch of idiots anyway, these actions may add fuel to their fire. I mean, it's just a mention of a ban. Nothing has happened, & IMO not much will come of all of this.
So why is everyone panicking? Can't even buy a 50 round box of 22's, & they aren't even on the list.
Then there's our fellow enthusiasts that are selling Wolf 223 for $1 a round.................

Maybe this is the Economic Stimulus Package of 2013 being delivered by Executive order. After we stockpile a sufficient amount of ammunition ad arms at premium prices, we will have little cash on hand to avert a BHO 3rd term push.

I know I am not selling any of my ammo. Nobody knows how this is going to end but when the dust settles it's going to be different world for us gun owners.

4th quarter was still negative growth with all the extra dollars we spent on firearms and ammo the last few weeks of the year. imagine how bad it would have been had we not stimulated the economy!

All that I can think of is panic buying driving up prices and driving availability down. I actually saw a 500 round brick of .22's for $90 at a gun show last weekend. I guess that I'm fortunate in liking some "odd" calibers that haven't been easy to find in normal times, but now sort of stand out. .25-20's anybody? Even .260 Remington is easier to find than 5.56!

Perhaps people are scared of their government, the way it's turning Socialist day by day, are worried about a more and more controlling and oppressive bureaucracy and are actually preparing to fight for their country; the one they used to have.
Does anyone recognize the country that we have become at this point as being the America that most of us grew up in? I sure don't. Have we ever seen the blatant level of corruption from the top down as we have now? Have we ever seen such elitism where the well connected can either be awarded millions in non-recourse loans or basically just outright steal millions/billions of dollars that they were entrusted with and fail to even see the inside of a courtroom much less a day in jail for their misdeeds?
And do you really see ANYTHING truly getting any better? Is employment (actual 40 hr. jobs) going up? Are wages increasing in any meaningful way that even comes close to keeping up with TRUE inflation? Is the housing situation really getting any better? Has govt. spending even been addressed (seriously that is) much less actually been implemented on current expenditures, not future ones? The list goes on and on without a shred of good news.
So, people are getting prepared for the worst but still hoping for the best, but that faint glimmer of hope is fading and fading fast.

I can't help but wonder if this has spread to air rifles, too. I was looking for a particular upscale model/ brand a couple weeks ago, found an online delaer had about 30 different models from one maker I was interested in. Went to the site yesterday, all model out of stock?!! and it was AFTER Christmas!

I think Obama secretly bought stock in ammo companies...LOL. The only I haven't been able to find is 9mm. Primers and powder have been scarce also.

Perhaps? Perhaps? Perhaps? It is here and it is real and the buzzword is not "Perhaps" the word is "Now". The words "it is turning into a Socialist state" should read, "it is a Socialist state". Who the hell do you think put this garbage back into the whitehouse? The "citizens of the state", the takers, the stupid and ignorant--the same kind of people who put all these socialist/ fascist/communist (take your pick) into power over the years. You come to my house and preach your crap or try and take what is mine (including firearms) or tell me to move to a "nice" camp in Idaho, like the gestapo did to my fellow jews and I guarantee you someone will go to hell before I go to heaven. I will not be a sheep and listen to this goddamn miserable federal government. Should I tell you how I really feel?

One thing that I know will come out of this is that people are going to greatly increase their stockpiles as soon as they can. I keep quite a bit of ammo stocked for all of my firearms but, when this settles down, I'll be slowly working on tripling the amount.

Tell us how you really feel, In all seriousness you are correct one wonders how many have read the communist manefesto? Its pretty clear, the first step into tryrany is an unarmed population. It is high time people woke up and realized our liberty and citizenship are at stake here!

Glad I made a pretty large bulk purchase late last year...I hope the stock picks up before I shoot all the FMJ up. Any one notice how reloading supplies are doing? I have relatives who reload and have offered to let me use their equipment if I want.

.223 stuff is tough to find around here. Brass, bullets, powder, primers all hard to get at the moment. Can't find small rifle primers at all. Fortunately, I have some stashed. Bullets for pistols are not much better. Last weekend at the gun show, there was some brass available for pistols and other rifle calibers.

This is me. Though I'm really behind the curve when it comes to ammo supply sadly. I didn't really start creating a supply for myself until after Xmas (money went to building my new AR-15... again, behind the curve), so I've only got a few hundred rounds spread between my firearms. I am trying to buy a box or two a week, but pickings are slim. =/

@ kelcarry
I totally agree with what you're saying, but I've decided to temper my words somewhat when on a public forum in hope that it will make people think and "perhaps" even elicit a reaction like yours. See! It works.

I am old and do not have time to "temper my words". I say what I mean and if the garbage in the whitehouse does not like it, he can pound salt---not even sure if he can do that right either--sure as hell does not understand what this country WAS all about.

Around here... 5.56/.223 is very scarce, 9mm is very scarce, 7.62x39 is limited but available, .308 is limited but available... .22lr is scarce, 12ga 00 is gone. I can still get the odd calibers, things like .308, '39 and 7.62x54R are out there but getting pricey too. The odd(ish) calibers are always a little more costly, .30-06 is $37-$40 per box, 45-70 is near $50 per box, .303 is $35-$38 per box...

I just got done with Cabelas website. They now list about 1/2 of the types of ammo that they had a week ago. Last week they listed what they had in stock and what could be back ordered. They don't even list any brand of 9 mm. Forty caliber and several other calibers are listed but very limited or back ordered. I have quite a bit of 9mm in stock but this ends my weekend target practice at the range. Maybe their online catalogue is inaccurate but I don't think so. Scheels in Waterloo has shelves that are practically empty.
