There is only "One" Religion that teaches/believes that Jesus is God, it's called Christianity. You say that you consider yourself a Christian and in the same breath you say that you do not believe that Jesus is God. It's no wonder that you start out by saying that you do not want to get into a "theological discussion" and I've "EARNED" a place on your Ignore List, that just makes it so much easier for you to hide such blatant ignorance than it is to discus and acquire some simple knowledge.

The link below will take you to a video showing the very first public singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA". But before you watch, you should also know the story of the song.

The time was 1940. America was still in a terrible economic depression. Hitler was taking over Europe and Americans were afraid we'd have to go to war. It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans.

This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and American families sat around their radios in the evenings, listening to their favorite entertainers, and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith.

Kate was also large in size, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her, "Isn't over till the fat lady sings". Kate Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her voice coming over the radio, she was the biggest star of
her time.

Kate was also very patriotic. It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring. She had hope for America, and faith in her fellow Americans. She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American
song-writer, Irving Berlin (also wrote "White Christmas") and asked him to write a song that would make Americans feel good again about their country.

When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her. He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way back in 1917. He gave it to Kate Smith and she worked on it with her studio
orchestra. She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from God Bless America. Any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, the Boy Scouts have received
millions of dollars in royalties from this song.

This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple verses, with her voice in the background still singing,
scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, "You're In The Army Now." At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper; it's Ronald Reagan.

Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said when he and a million other guys first heard her sing "God Bless America" on the radio, they all pretended to have dust in their eyes as they wiped away a tear or two.

To this day, God Bless America stirs our patriotic feelings and pride in our country. Back in 1940, when Kate Smith went looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt she realized just how successful the results would be for her
fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry, and for many generations of Americans to follow. Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you will enjoy it and treasure it even more.

We are neither. The long overdue diminution of religion in every conceivable aspect of social and political life hardly equates to "paganism." And we never were a "christian nation" to start with, which is fully consistent with the observation that this country has always had a predominantly Christian population. It still does, but the numbers and proportion are going down.

What happened to Alabama Judge Roy Moore

Some of you may be wondering what Judge Roy Moore has been doing since he was removed from the bench for refusing to remove the Ten Commandments from his courtroom wall.

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama . Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama ! The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

I started the thread "America is a Christian Nation a long time ago".

I may have to change that to "America was a Christian Nation".

In 1963, Khrushchev said, 'We will bury you, Of course we will not bury you with a shovel, your own working class will bury you.

What he meant is Our Socialist Government and the Non-Working Class will bury us.

I spent my Christmas of 1968 on a mountains on the boarder of Czechoslovakia's after the Russian Invasion.

There aren't many of us left that know the threat is real, for several decades America has been dumb-ed down.

Obama is now riding the Communist Wave to Victory, and it may be too late.

Obama didn't create the wave he just rode the one we let the Communist create.

I suppose that I am one of those types that you would call non-religious. However I do truly believe American was founded on Christian beliefs and values and nothing you will say can change that. Yes I know we are a melting pot. Yes you are free to worship a cactus here in American and that is part of what makes it so great. Yes I have heard about how brutal Christianity has been over the centuries and yes I know it is still not perfect, but when the SHTF I will fight with all my might and until I take my very last breath on the side of the cross. You people kid yourself if you do not think there are millions like me.

You say America never was a Christian Nation, I feel sorry for you with no Nation and no God.

Why do you say people insist on forcing their religion on everyone else?

If you didn't want to read this post you didn't have to, just like those that complain when there is a flag, or the 10 commandments posted, and they claim it is UN-Constitutional.

Evidently they can't read, the Constitution doesn't say freedom from Religion, and it also gives you the right to not look, but that isn't good enough is it?

I do truly believe American was founded on Christian beliefs and values and nothing you will say can change that.

Proving facts and knowledge and reason don't matter to those who have an imaginary supreme being they can use to justify their political and social positions.

BTW - which version of Christianity do you think the USA was founded on? I'm betting you'll say it was the version you happen to believe in - how convenient.

Your right but this discussion is the founding of America and intent of our Founders.

In 1787 the very year the Constitution was written and approved by Congress, that same Congress passed the Northwest ordinance.

Article 3: “Religion, Morality, and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged”.
Washington in his farewell address said, “Of all the dispositions and habits which leads to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports….And let us with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion….Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle. It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government.”
Several Founders have left us with their basic Religious beliefs.
Ben Franklin summarized the fundamental points of all sound religion.
“Here is my creed: I believe in one God, the Creator of the Universe. That he governs it by his providence. That he ought to be worshipped. That the most acceptable service we render to him is doing good to the other children. That the soul of man is immortal, and will be treated with justice in another life respecting the conduct in this.

Franklin’s five points to be taught in school:

1. There exists a Creator who made all things, and mankind should recognize and worship Him.
2. The Creator has revealed a mortal code of behavior for happy livingwhich distinguishes right from wrong.
3. The Creator holds mankind responsible for the way they treat each other .
4. All mankind live beyond this life.
5. In the next life mankind are judged for their conduct in this one.

Samuel Adams said that this group of basic beliefs which constitutes “the religion of America is the religion of all mankind”.

John Adams called these tenets the “general principles on which the American civilization was founded”.

Thomas Jefferson called these basic beliefs the principles “in which God has united us all”

Our Founders looked upon the fundamental precepts of Religion and Morality as the cornerstone of Good Government something that surly is now missing in Washington.

Funny how nothing like that shows up in the Constitution--which does (inconveniently for the groupthinking religious zealots) contain the Establishment Clause in the 1st amendment. Religious extremists either pretend it doesn't exist (and talk only about the Free Exercise clause as if it were a standalone item) or disingenuously and baselessly indulge in the patent, shameful fiction that the Establishment Clause exists "for the purpose of keeping government out of religion, not the other way around).

Uh? The largest single christian group in the US is Roman Catholic, the "Christians" who wrote the bible, the original Christians, the ones the make-believe Christians broke away from when they wanted to get divorced.

So America isn't a "Christian"nation ina generic sense, it is a Roman Catholic nation. Those of you who have rejected the one true Jesus of the Roman Catholic church will burn in hell's fire.
