Am I just doomed.

I am in the military and stationed in Hawaii. Hawaii is a may issue state and has only issued a handful of Concealed Carry permits in the last ten years. This new law that says all states should honor other states permits is a great thing. Bad thing for me is I am a legal resident of the great state of Illinois. We all know how that goes. My question is, will I ever be able to carry withouth changeing my residency to a more liberal state or am I doomed. So frustrated.

you could look into getting a non-resident permit from another state...ie AZ, FL. you'd currently be allowed to carry in states that have reciprocity w/ that state's non-resident permit. i'm not sure on the working of the new bill if the national reciprocity would also include people that only have a non-resident permit.

I feel your pain I am a resident of the state of New Jersey. I do have a Florida non resident permit and I do carry outside the state of NJ. I too am looking and searching for what this new reciprocity law will do for me. Maybe just maybe if NJ is forced to let non residents carry then maybe just maybe they'll let there own residents carry:lol: I know what am I smoking

Please allow me to help you out here. Illinois and Hawaii ARE liberal states. If you want to carry, you need to move to a less liberal place. Liberalism is the epitome of hypocrisy. An oxymoron if you will. The only thing liberals are liberal with, is everyone else's money. Again, just helping you out.

...and yes, you keep living in places like Illinois and Hawaii, you are doomed.

You can get a non resident permit and if the federal reciprocity law is passed you will be able to carry in 49 States. You will not be able to carry in IL because A) IL does not allow carry and, B) the law does not require States to accept non resident permits from their own residents.

In any case as the law now stands you are SOL in HI as they do not have reciprocity with any other State and as you know they do not issue except to the high and mighty.

There is a ray of sunshine coming out of IL. One county has passed constitutional carry. This does not have any significant effect on the law as State law trumps local. I believe that it passed by 85% so it does have a political effect. If more counties vote in this type of legislation it could create a lot of pressure on the legislature.

I wonder about that Illinois legislation when I also read today that last week, a federal district court in Illinois ruled that the Second Amendment does not protect a right to carry firearms for self-protection outside the home.

Here is a link to the news report that has been largely ignored. The article is entitled "NRA Will Appeal Illinois Decision Denying Right-to-Carry Outside the Home".

My condolences to the OP who, through no fault of his own, is truly screwed in his present residence and his home of record for the military. Do you have any relatives in Florida who would allow you to change your home of record with the military to their home? (Yeah, that was a terrible sentence - I hope you understood it!)

Best of luck with solving your dilemma.
