Alamo Ammo - Watch out for their business practices

Normally I wouldn't blast a company publicly on a forum, but I have had a relatively bad experience from this company and they refuse to respond to me.

I made a significant purchase from Alamo Ammo to the tune of about $1200.

On their site they said their shipping was 3-business days and they charged $48.20 for it. I felt this rather excessive but the total cost of what I got was still decent so I went for it.

This purchase was made on the 9th of January. On the 10th of January I received shipping label information and a tracking number. Great. This was Friday, so I would receive my order the following Tuesday (3 days shipping not counting weekends). I didn't get the order until Thursday, one full week from when I ordered it.

This didn't irk me so much as what I found out when I called FedEx to find out where it was when it didn't arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. They told me Alamo Ammo didn't ship it as a 3-business day shipment but as a "home-delivery" shipment which according to FedEx is anywhere from 1-7 days of shipping. This is not what I paid almost $50 in shipping for.

When I replied back to emails they sent me about my order, they never replied back.

When I went on their site and used their "Contact Us" page, their electronic messaging wouldn't work on any Internet Browser (IE, Firefox, or Google Chrome)

I don't mind waiting a few extra days for a package. What I do mind is a company that charges you for one service and then gives you something inferior to it. In addition, when they don't/won't return your messages, it is obvious they don't care about customer service.

Since I cannot speak to them about it, since they won't reply back to my messages... I'm letting the firearm community know about their horrible customer service.

In addition, I will never order anything from them again.

Just the fact that they are selling cci 375 rounds Landry for $119.95 would make me run from this site. Or 100 rounds of cci mini mags for $34.95, yikes!

Hmmmmm....... I have an order with them right now that I am waiting on to be filled. Guess we'll see how it goes?

Good luck to you... being that I'm a Yankee might have something to do with it.. lol.

That's funny. I used to think of TX as being in "the South" too, until I moved here. I thought I might earn some "cred" by saying I was born and raised in CA, but to a whole family that was from TX, so I still had "Southern" sensibilities (which is true BTW, just not because of my TX lineage LOL). Turns out TX is not thought of down here in the same "legitimate" light of being "Southern" as are the rest of the old Confederacy, at least not by native Alabamians with whom I've talked about it. I guess it has something to do with TX not being represented at the convention which resulted in the creation of the Confederate States of America in Montgomery, AL. TX was added afterwards by consent.

Of course, to Texans, it may be the case that they think of themselves as being of the Confederacy, and you being a Yankee and all might be your problem in this instance. I've got it worse though. Even though CA had no involvement in the War of Northern Aggression, I am thought of as not only a Yankee, but a Damn Yankee, because I didn't just visit down here, I stayed. LOL

Exactly what the Texans called me when I lived there for about 2 years. I was educated so eloquently to the difference between a Yankee and a damned Yankee. I was, of course, the damned variety while living there. I now have reverted to just being a Yankee once again. LOL.

Placed my order on the 1/16. Received it from Fedex yesterday, 1/21 with no issues. It wasn't a "big" order though, only a hundred bucks so that might have made a difference? I dunno?

I'm glad things worked out well with your order. Living in TX probably had more to do with it... quicker to ship in state than out of state.

Did you check whether they delivered it 3-business day shipping or home delivery? On their site, you specifically pay for 3-business day shipping.

That's illegal under most state consumer laws. Get documentation from FedEx. Send a certified letter to the ammo company demanding a refund. If they don't respond file a complaint with both your state attorney general and the AG in the state where the company exists.

Is it the ammo company or the shipper?

I’ve had things shipped UPS and had them ask me if I wanted overnight , then tell me that “overnight” is 2 days and second day air is 3 days.
I’d be willing to bet that the company has some kind of disclaimer that says that you get your order when you get it no matter what you paid for.

BC1... For the $10 or so that the difference in shipping would have been on a $1200 purchase, I am not going through all that trouble, especially when any attempt to contact them to resolve this has not been returned. The money actually is not the concern. It is the deception that grinds my gears.

So, I will do the best thing I can. Blast them. Blast them often. Tell everyone of the people I know at both ranges I belong to. I will continue to let everyone I know in the firearms community that they are not worth doing business with.

I purchase a lot. If they do not want anymore of my business, then I will make sure they get no one's business that I know.

This is what I love about a capitalistic society.

Alamo Ammo on their order site states that the shipping is 3 business day ground shipping. However, when my package didn't arrive in the time that 3 business days occurred. I contacted FedEx. They informed me that it was not shipped as a 3 business day shipment, but was shipped as a home delivery shipment which could be anywhere from 1-7 days.

I have no care about any disclaimer. If you say one thing and then in small print say it means nothing, I want nothing to do with that company any longer. If they did have a disclaimer somewhere it was not at all evident.

I just went on their site because, Eidolon, you got me thinking about a disclaimer. I was pretty darn sure there was none.

Here's what comes up for estimated shipping:

That's pretty ambiguous... Possibly they haven't updated their order form with new times offered by FedEx (somehow doubt it)? At least they could say it's approximately three days, and then I'd give it to them. Even so... they can't promise delivery in three days and expect you to go look up shipping times at FedEx to get the real estimate. I won't be ordering there. Especially since I might be really screwed... I was born in Indiana, raised in California then joined the Navy and went all over (including DC... terrible place), and now live in Colorado!

That's a first

Well that was unnecessary.

I have never heard of this with UPS. I have had a lot of stuff shipped and received using UPS. Overnight has always been by 10 AM the next day and 2nd day air was just that. But the order had to be placed with the vendor in time so they could get the order out. Now the delivery address had to be a place of business or the time would not be by 10 AM but by the end of the business day.

The only time I never received an order the next day from overnight or by 2nd day air was when the vendor did not get the order out. UPS was NEVER the problem!!!!
