Howdy cripps,
Been there, done that.
My problem was that at about 42 I had to start wearing reading glasses to see the sights clearly. I started with the 1.00s, then moved to the 1.25s, then to the 1.50s.
By the time I got to the 1.50s I could no longer see the target clear enough if it was over 15' away. Since my left eye was stronger and I could see the sights without reading glasses I "trained" myself to use my left eye when shooting a pistol eventhough I'm very right eye dominate.
I did this by taking a pair of safer glasses that have removable lenses and removing the right lens and spray painting it flat black ( took several coats ) and after it was dry reinstalling it. This "forced me to use my left eye since I could not see anything with my right eye.
I shot several thousand rounds and made several hundred "quick draws" before I got in the habit of using my left eye when shooting a handgun.
This didn't help any with shooting a rifle, especially with open or peeps sights.
Nowadays at age 49 I have a different issue. Last year I developed a cataract on my right eye. I had it removed back in Feburary and had surgery to correct a slight astigmatism at the same time. Now my vision in my right eye is 20/25 and I nolonger need to wear reading glasses to read and I can now see the sights of s handgun clearly without glasses and I can still see the red bull's eye of a standard 25yd pistol target at 25yds while focusing on the front sight.
My problem is that I have to "retrain" myself to use my right eye when shooting a handgun.
Good luck with the cataract and I HTH.
