Advertising firearms ownership?

Treo

Bullet Proof
I have some NRA logoed hats and some from the Pikes Peak Gun Club but I find that I never wear them unless I am going to a gun show or to the range. The last time I wore the NRA hat elsewhere was to church and the pastor acted like he’d hit a brick wall when he saw it. (Not sure why, he knows I carry in church)

DW says she’d rather I not wear the hats out in public w/ her as well. She also says I might as well wear a CCW sash as one of those hats when I go out.

So my question and the topic of this thread is who else here forgoes the wearing of firearms related clothing because of the negative attention it sometimes brings?

Whatever suits me on a given day I see folks all the time with NRA, FBI, Police hats so I dress however I wish.

Just because you wear a NRA hat doesn't mean you're carrying, any more than wearing a camouflage hat means you're got a deer rifle with you.

It just shows that you're pro-Second Amendment.

The heck with the sash, wear your CCW badge.

NRA Hats

NRA Hats

When I was a younger man my Policy was No NRA hat when I was Carrying. Yes NRA hat when I wasn't. I did it this way because I didn't want to advertise when I was carrying and wanted to bluff when I wasn't.

Now: I'm not sure if there was any advantage to this Policy. Let me know what you think.

Now: I always wear the NRA hat except when I'm wearing my "Infidel" hat. Again: I'm not sure if there's any advantage or disadvantage to doing it this way.

Let me know what you think.

To be honest I wear what I want and don't give much thought to it. Sometimes that include a NRA t-shirt or hat, or it might be the aforementioned camouflage cap. I also have pro-NRA, TSRA (Texas State Rifle Association) and pro-hunting stickers on my pickup. It doesn't mean I am always armed (most of the time I am), it's just my way of expressing my passion for my hobbies of shooting, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor pursuits.

No gun related hats or t-shirts and no gun related stickers on my vehicles. Just don't want to advertise that my house, unoccupied a lot when I am traveling, might be a good place to steal guns. I support the 2nd Amendment in other ways.

Attention-getter

I also have seen hats with all different kinds of logos. My favorite one now simply has the U.S. Border Patrol emblem on it. People can draw whatever conclusion they want but it gets lots of stares from the large migrant worker population here. My wife thinks that is like wearing a target but, what the heck, if they can't take a joke, go back home!:sarcastic:

I generally do NOT wear gun related wear..
Until recently I had NO gun related bumper stickers..
I got really sick of seeing all the Coexist stickers, when I saw the gun converted one, I just had to have it..
Do get me wrong, I think all religions SHOULD get along.. However, as much of a nice thought that might be.. I have no illusion that it will EVER happen..

Wonder if there are any actual occurrences of this happening...or is it another one of those "open carry will get you shot first" old wives tales?

That being said...I have the following magnets on my tailgate:

I have a few hats and t-shirts from firearm companies/organizations. I don't feel self-concious or uncomfortable wearing them. I guess there might be certain situations where I wouldn't, like if my girlfirend's mother was an anti-gun nut and I was going over for dinner or something.

One thing I don't do is put firearm stickers on my vehicles. That's pretty much an invitation for some scumbag to break into my truck because he knows I'm a gun owner and he feels he might hit the jackpot.

Nope, I don't advertise carrying a firearm by wearing logoed merchandise or putting stickers on my vehicles. The only hat associated with firearms I have that gets worn is a ball cap that I picked up at the World SASS Championships ("End of Trail') in '02 and nothing on it says gun or firearm. Those that know what EoT is will know but the vast majority of the populace just sees a ball cap.

I once wore my Glock hat to a Mercedes Benz event. The many that snootily cared smiled at me politely so i wore it again to the next event just to irritate them. I had since dropped that account.:man_in_love:

On normal occasions, I don't wear hats anyway...it ruins my hairdo.:sarcastic:

clothing

I, being a retired reemployed Leo, make it a point not to advertise anything about myself while out at a mall.

I would rather look like a bookkeeper (no offense meant) than look like someone who needs to be taken out first during an active shooter encounter.
Just my 0.2 cents

Got a NRA sticker on my truck as well as "Who is John Galt?". That's all for the advertising. As for wearing attire out in town. Just my USACARRY T on occasion or my NRA hat when going to the range. Normally I do not wear any advertising saying I'm armed, come get me. Kinda defeats the purpose of CC.
