Adopting a child and guns

My wife and I want to adopt. We already have a child but want more. Adoption is the route we have chosen. This is a somewhat tedious process and they thoroughly check your background. I am not trying to turn people away from adopting. We are still adopting. During the process they inspected our home...twice. I have a gun safe and keep things out of the hands and minds of little people. They insisted that the guns and ammo are kept locked separately. I asked what if someone broke into the house...do they realize I could not protect my family because the items were stored separately? Before I could even get the question out I was informed this is non-negotiable and they had plenty of people try to explain, reason, or change things. This is the rule, Period!

By the way....after you adopt. The child is legally yours just like a birth child and the state no longer is involved. You can store your weapons any way you like.

Just an FYI for all the gun owners.

Stupid rule. As you said once the process is finished you can do what you want so why even have the rule. Typical anti gun crap.
Good luck with the adoption BTW.

I'm jealous! We would love to adopt a toddler/infant - but the cost is SO high that I think I'm going to have to put that dream away. Good luck!

It is not that expensive if you are willing to jump through a few hoops and spend a little time. Your local county (or even a different county) will help you get licensed. Once licensed there are kids available from all over the country. AdoptUSKids can help find one. These kids have been removed from dangerous, severely detrimental homes and just need decent parents. Its not about how rich you are or how much stuff you have. Good parents (or single people) are considered equally.

I did not have to get rid of anything. Simply a matter of storage and safety. I disagree with locking them up separately but they make the rules and I will follow along to get what I want.

Thank you for the info! I'll check it out and talk it over with the husband. :)

At least they're not of the, "Oh, you have guns? Good bye, don't call us, we'll call you," frame of mind.
