A Tribute to Police

Liberals and communists are also human, doesnt mean I want them around me or to interact with them.... or that I have any reason at all to "respect" them...

2011 Rate of occupational deaths among farmers, ranchers and agricultural managers: 25.6 per 100,000. Rate of occupational deaths among police officers: 18.6 per 100,000.

Have you hugged your local farmer lately?

Police officer is not on the list of top 10 most dangerous jobs.

Yep, married into a farming family. Great people. Police officers, regardless of popular thought, do have dangerous jobs and we would be in a mess without them. Not all are bad but they have to take the blame for those who are. "One bad apple.........." Without them, who would maintain some semblance of law and order? Those who constantly complain about the police? Don't think so but to each his own thoughts.

I just don't feel that police officers deserve any more tribute than most other people do. Farmers have dangerous jobs and we would be in a mess without them. Without them who would put food on the majority of families' tables? Those who pay tribute to police officers? Loggers and lumber workers have dangerous jobs and we would be in a mess without them. Without them who would put a roof over the majority of families' heads? Those who pay tribute to police officers? Garbage collectors have dangerous jobs and we would be in a really stinky and unhealthy mess without them. Without them who would take away the trash from the majority of households, especially in urban areas? Those who pay tribute to police officers?

I am not against all the good, hard working police officers working dangerous jobs every day. But I cannot put them into hero status or on a pedestal over other good hard working people in dangerous jobs just because of the career field they have chosen.

If two garbage collectors were killed in a drive by shooting, would they get the attention the NY police officers or the Lakewood, WA police officers in the coffee shop did?

My guess is that they'd be a LOT more appreciated if:
  1. they policed their own ranks.
  2. they didn't circle the wagons around even the most loathsome among them. What kind of ANIMAL would defend that coward Tony Abbate who stomped the barmaid? How can cops defend him? How can they be MORE enraged that the video of the beating is shown "too much" than they are at the beating itself?
Cops are going to have to choose, the sociopaths in their ranks or the public. If they continue to choose the former, the public would be fools to support them.

I have not said that police officers should be exalted but I do recognize the dangers they face, regardless of how you try to minimize their role in society. It is easy to criticize them when you aren't having to do their job or when you do not have an emergency which would require their presence. You can belittle them as much as you want but, without them, things would be a helluva lot worse. I have had a couple of run ins with the law which cost me some money but, as the video said, both were my fault so I can't complain. From the comments I have seen on here, there is an animus against all LEOs and I would be curious to know if those who complain the most haven't been the ones who have had the run ins with them. I can't condemn them all for the actions of a few and would hope that we would all be above that. However, I doubt it.

We condemn them on the NON-Actions of the MANY who UTTERLY FAIL to arrest and weed out the "few" bad ones. The reality is, THEY PROTECT THEM...

I complain because I HAVE HAD RUN INS WITH IDIOTS who have a badge who havent the faintest idea what the "Law" they supposedly enforce actually says.... I have been ILLEGALLY DISARMED when pulled over for speeding.... I have been ILLEGALLY FRISKED for the NON-Crime of NOT FOLLOWING an UNLAWFUL order.... I have been talked down to, insulted and assaulted for doing NOTHING ILLEGAL... yet YOU think crap like this never happens, that people just "hate" on cops, the poor things are just misunderstood... NO, I understand them quite well, thank you... and I dont trust ANY OF THEM...

All you need to know about how cops feel about the public is the reaction of the rank and file of the Chicago PD to the savage beating of 110lb. barmaid Karolina Obrycka by 300lb. drunken cop, Tony Abatte. In addition to the witness intimidation engaged in by his fellow officers, for which the city was not only found liable, but as a result of which there was an OFFICIAL JUDICIAL FINDING that a "blue wall of silence" exists in the Chicago PD, the rank and file demonstrated a pattern of quite ostentatious shows of support for Abbate, allowing him to hide out in "rehab", failing to handcuff him when he was arrested, and harassing the media covering his court appearances.

In addition to these antics, there was a seemingly organized online campaign of vituperation against the victim, one of the most popular aspects being to assert that she is an "illegal" alien, and hence DESERVING of the beating.

Complaints by cops that the video of the cowardly beating was shown "too much" outnumbered actual condemnation of the beating probably ten to one. To the rank and file of the Chicago PD, it's not the beating that was the problem. It was the public KNOWING about it, and the perpetrator not being able to either deny it or charge the VICTIM with assault.

That's how LARGE segments of the police view VICTIMS of violent crime... at least violent crime by COPS.

It seems to a lot of people that there's quite literally NOTHING a cop can do that will prevent other cops from "having his back"...

Here you go grunt,

My family helped an officers family from losing their house back in 2002 when the wife got cancer and started chemo...only to find out the officer and wife were actually getting into drugs and she shaved her head. Did the other police turn them in? Nope, they tried intimidating my mother by constantly harassing her outside our home. The DA did side with our family and press charges. What happened to the officer we helped? I thought they fired him, I recently found out they allowed him to quit, along with a few other officers...I'm sure though they are back on the force somewhere, doing the same thing.

We deserved that though right?

I was pulled over for reckless driving. I plead not guilty, and had a coworkers wifes boss (best defense lawyer near Eugene) tell me to be ready for the officer to lie in court. Sure enough, the officer lied and forgot to bring the video to court. Go figure, since I learned of the video that day, ordered it which cost me a couple hundred dollars to obtain and legally transcribe...wouldn't you know parts off the audio are missing after it took them 2 months to get it to me. That's okay, we can see the officer lied about where he was at the time, what lane I was in, and that no one was around me. I would not mind me being the only person screwed by this officer, but I gotta ask, how many times has he done this before, since then?

I lost count with how many officers abused drug addicts when they posed no threat while ems was treating them. By the time I had a reputation and became a paramedic, I finally worked in an area that had one sheriff, that we would see occasionally, and boy was that community so much better off.

I don't wish others to experience what I have, or to hold an animosity that I hold. I was lucky I was not physically hurt, only financially hurt. It drives me to distrust police, and I will do so until that individual officer proves their worthy of respect. It's unfortunate I had to learn it through experience.

Chen: Your family was indeed screwed over by a bunch of sorry people. Kudos to your family for continuing to press the issue and achieving some form of redress. That kind of people are the ones who do bring problems to others who try to do good in their jobs and, unfortunately, there are too many of them out there. However, there ARE some good LEOs and I hate to see condemnation of all for the actions of a few. Anytime I am around a LEO for any purpose, I am always a little leery but I haven't received any static nor have I given any because of the general opinion that all cops are bad guys. This is a sad world if we have to fear interaction with police and I refuse to believe that all are bad, and to carry a negative feeling towards them constantly, is unnecessary. Even a "good" cop seems to become everyone's enemy when he has to perform his duties in a manner inconsistent with their feelings on the matter. Oh well, the world still goes around!

I really don't hate cops, I just distrust them severely. I understand their people, but they will never get my respect or trust if i don't personally know them.

My uncle is LAPD. He is in whatever department is considered internal investigation now. My best friend, the best man in my wedding, the guy I named my son after, is a deputy for the county sheriff. They understand where and why I stand where I do.

Likewise.

I find it interesting that cops and their supporters think I should trust them without question, but on the other hand cops have no need to trust me at all, and can indeed treat me like a felon by default.

The truth is that we'd be fools to trust each other without knowing each other... well.

To not trust is to not respect. The biggest problem in the world today is people that do not respect other people. Usually these same people do not have respect for others, themselves, or any living thing. They only think of themselves and think they are entitled to be right because they are in charge of their lives. Well, this is absolutely wrong. We are a country of laws and rule, not men of individuals. I'm gong to make a statement, so read it and think deeply about it. "If every person on Earth followed and respected the current laws, notice I said every person, there would be no wars, and no killing, and life would be nearly perfect. Really, isn't that what all of us want, to be left alone to live our lives in peace?
It's when one person decides they are more entitled or important than others that things hit the skids. Freedom is only attainable by laws. When everybody plays by the rules, life is good. No reason for killing and wars. There is only One (God) that can be in charge in a peaceful society. as soon as one other decides they are in charge of anything, including their own life, trouble isn't far behind. There have been laws and rules from the beginning of time. Laws of God, laws of physics, laws of nature, you've all heard about these. Every time one of these are broken, bad things happen. Always has, always will.
