And, as we finish up writing up her purchase, he says, "my next purchase is going to be an 'assault rifle'," with a look over at the AR rack. So I say, "you understand that neither we, nor any other store in this area, sell assault rifles. Our FFLs do not permit us to sell them, and the media have deliberately misrepresented them." I then explain the difference between an assault rifle and a military-style semi-auto. He SEEMS to be listening to what I am saying.

When I am done with my explanation, he gets a knowing, smug smile on his face, looks back over at the AR rack, and says, "No, they are ASSAULT RIFLES; they have high capacity magazines, bayonet lugs….." and rattles off the list of other traits that scare Pelosi so much.

I’ve come to the point in life where I don’t waste my time trying to correct people anymore, they don’t want to hear it and they don’t really care what some stranger has to say.

No offence intended but I am sure that guy was telling his girl friend what a dumbass you were (not that I’m calling you that) all the way to his car.

The old saying rings true again...."You can't talk horse sense to a jackass". (Again, referring to the customer). I thought the same thing before I read Eidolon's entry.....about the dumbass bragging to his girlfriend about his "superior knowledge" after the fact.

I don' think that the story is that the person don't know the difference between a assault rifle and a military-style semi-auto is that he is having someone else buy guns in their name for him because he cannot buy a gun.

WTF are you talking about and what post did you supposedly read it in?

Um, no.

Eidolon - yeah, probably. And he can be WRONG all the way to his car, too! :dirol:

I have the same trouble communicating with my wife. I will say something about a subject and she comes back with some outlandish answer that has nothing to do whatsoever with what I said !...? Or I'll start to explain something and after only getting out 3 or 4 words she is answering back (after wrongly assuming what I was gonna say) in a way totally off the subject!
Funny how people get their minds moving in a certain direction and no matter how you try to correct them, they just can't switch direction!

If it's black and looks scary to him, then it's an assault weapon, legal assault weapon definition be damned.

I know it can be difficult for a private businessman, but if it were me, "I'm sorry, sir, but there's nothing I can help you with today (or ever)." He can take his business elsewhere. Or better yet, "I'm sorry, sir, but you cannot purchase one of these. Only people with an XYZ permit/license/authority can obtain one. Thanks and have a nice day."

Dependent on how much time I had, I would have taken an AR out of the rack and pointed out the lack of a 3rd position on the selector and the difference in cost involved in having that "go fast" option.

I covered those things. His mind was made up that he would be buying an "assault rifle" one day.

I have a M1 Garand, 8 shot clip to those that don't know, 30-06 just to be sure. THIS WAS an assault rifle that has more kills during WW2, Korea and the onset of NAM then any assault rifle combined. I think all weapons are assault weapons due to what you're, hopefully never going to do, is assault the BG with. Could I have gone with a bigger MAG and newer platform, sure. BUT proven platforms in areas of the world over the decades told me this is what I want. Personal choice, I'm sure some would argue, but my choice.

Your costumer proved that the space between his ears has something in there that a dog would not eat and that a cat would want to cover up!

Haha. I think we may be married to the same woman!

I had to go check my pants after reading that one! Years ago, a gal told me she had a dog that was so stupid, he WOULD eat his own droppings. Seriously. The trauma of that visual still haunts me today, and now, you've reopened a wound that will never heal! Never!

He still wouldn't have grasped the "go fast bang switch" explanation; you can't fix stupid.

Actually it was a Main Battle Rifle not an Assault Rifle

Sooooo, if I'm putting 8 x 30-06 rounds through you, you wouldn't consider that an assault just a battle?
