a lot of arm chair conjecture

I read a lot of what-ifs. I read a lot of "I would do this" ...

Seventeen years ago today, a 14 year old gang banger changed my life. He fired 3 shots during an attempted robbery, and put 3 bullet holes in me, with his last shot at point blank range. Luckily, it was only a .25 caliber. The entire episode was over in less than 30 seconds.

Flight was my decision ... get description ... and lucked upon police within 2 blocks of being shot. Medical attention (ambulance service) was within another block.

I read a lot of conjecture here ... but, until TSHF it is just that - conjecture. Prepare, practice, use good SA, and ALWAYS CARRY when it is legal.

Fourteen year old was certified as an adult and spent 15 years in prison. I recovered and settled with workman's comp.

Today, I live and work in a safer area, but, like AMEX, I don't leave home without it (my concealed weapon).

A survivors story and advice, such as yours; is worth more than a bunch of people who share opinions I could care less about and ones that are ill thought out. What if's, should of's, could of's and would of's are just about as valuable and do nothing more than stimulate non-winning debates and more conjecture. I'm sure that every day you wake up you thank the good lord for giving you the second chance at life that you now have and probably wonder why "you". Maybe this post is one reason. Thanks for sharing and I share your sediments about carrying....my AMEX is with me always!

Thanks for sharing. Sorry you had to go through this. I would like to ask if you were a gun owner at the time? Were you carrying at the time? If you would have been carrying, would the outcome been different? Is this the reason that you started carrying? What other advice would you give? Thanks.

yes, I owned and had my weapon in the vehicle the prior evening, but removed it.

I moved out of state, to a state with permitted carry laws ... and have been carrying since.

and, no, flight would have still been the best option.

Lesson learned. Thanks for your post. Sorry you have to go through it and I wish people will not be so complacent to think that it will not happen to them. You'll never know when the sh#t will hit the fan.
