A LEO with PMS??

Your thoughts?

Why does a police officer, someone who is suppose to be upholding the law, have a right to break the law when it pleases him? She was doing her job as a police officer. Did she go to far? Possibly, but what if the car had been stolen? How was she to know? Would any officer have acted differently if they had been chasing someone else in an unmarked car for several minutes at over 100mph? Probably not.

FL State Trooper video

Leo or not, all women has PMS. Ask my husband. <g>

I'll admit to occasional PMS, but my HUSBAND also gets PMS ... My excuse is hormonal fluctuation--what's his excuse? :)

As for the video, I think the Trooper was in the right. The Miami Police vehicle did not have their lights on, the Trooper followed the police car for several minutes with no indication from the police car of compliance or to back off (if they were enroute to something official), and so the Trooper is left to deal with the situation as you would any other law breaker.

In the end, it was discovered that the off-duty Miami police officer was driving 100+ mph because he was "late to his 2nd job." That means 1) he was a civilian driving 100+ mph, 2) he was a civilian ignoring the Trooper's flashing lights, and 3) for all the Trooper knew he was a civilian with a stolen police vehicle. If someone is willing to steal a police vehicle, they might also be willing to do a LEO harm. I see no problem with approaching the vehilce with gun drawn--how does the Trooper know who is driving???

Having worked 911 dispatch for awhile back when along with my wife's daughter a being a city cop and meeting several along the way, I can tell you there is a strong elitist mentality among many LEO's. Many feel they are above any traffic law and deserve much more by way of job perks than the rest of society. Omaha cops have a four day work week and a retirement package that rivals, well, it's a taxpayor's nightmare. Of course, the police union thinks draining the city is never an issue...

Once she knew he was an officer she should have lowered her level of aggression. For her to cuff him was out of line.

For him to be running this fast to get to a 2nd job was also out of line.

She should have turned this situation over to her supervisor and allowed him to follow up with PD. When her dispatcher told her to back off she should have followed the direction. She had the plate number and everything could be addressed later.

In the end his department should suspend him and require some level of retraining.
Let me add that his department will and should apply the level of punishment they see fit.

If I endangered the public by driving 100+ mph (never mind eluding), _I_ would not be allowed to avoid the criminal justice system. Why should a cop, who UNDOUBTEDLY knows better?

You can't break the law AND enforce it.

One law for everyone or no law at all.

If I drive over 100 mph should I be allowed to keep going, or not get cuffed, after the officer found out I was a fire fighter? Or a medic? what if I was an off duty hotel clerk getting to my next job? What makes the off duty officer aka civilian any less of a criminal than a street racer going over 100mph? What criminal that eludes police wont get a gun drawn on them? Label the off duty officer what he is, a criminal.

If only I was allowed to do whatever I want and could deal with the consequences at some point (maybe), but not during the actual crime.

In the end the criminal should be prosecuted like every other criminal. Over 100 mph automatic license suspension. Car gets impounded. Hefty fine. Spends the night in jail. Because it was in a marked car, he should be fired for reckless driving in a public vehicle. No suspension crap, or retraining. He should be fired, find another job. Hopefully a job that doesn't involve anything with an engine.

And then for all the officers saying she won't get back up, or she would have had a fight on her hands if it was their car, sickening. Some think there are only a few bad cops, but there is plenty of cops doing nothing about them, which makes them bad cops in my book as well.

Oh she pointed her gun at his head. What bullsh*t just because he is an officer he wants to be treated better then any other citizen. I agree that if the cops reason is not a good one he needs to lose his job. As for the officer who said if that had been me, he needs to be fired right away before he injuries someone.

I think she should have tasered him then charged him with assault, fleeing or evasion and resisting arrest. That seems to be par for the course on stops like this at least for us normal non-leo subjects. Why should this cop get special treatment?

Apparently you think Reported to supervisor means get off free card!.

Where in my post did I same he should not receive a citation.
A citation does not have to be issues there...

Driving 122+ mph in traffic (pretty heavy traffic at that) is at least a misdemeanor, closer to gross or aggravated misdemeanor, borderline felony. Not just a citation for an infraction or violation.

Why should an off duty cop get away with such a high criminal offense until a later date?

And I'm sure you have not sped to the extent you were a danger to the public!...Where in my post did you see no punishment!

Maybe I had a brain fart and typed something I did not think I did.

As far as backup I don't think any office would ever with hold backup....

There is no hostility in my post, think of my voice as if Ben Stine was saying it. If you want to give my post a hostile attitude, that's not me. I was asking questions, you could try answering them.

Firemen aren't angels, neither are medics, nurses, doctors, or anyone else, including police. Do I feel I should be above the law? Nope. Do I feel I should be let go until a later date when they can mail me a citation? Nope. Would I expect to keep my job if I was driving a department vehicle at 122 mph eluding another officer to another job? Nope. I would expect to get handcuffed, fined, lose my job, lose my license, at a minimum.

You think they will still give her back up, but they have officers posting in forums like this that have said they would not. They should also be let go for an us and them mentality.

I read that as letting an officer out of punishment.

Or a lifeguard at the municipal swimming pool for that matter.

Some cops consider themselves as some kind of ruling class, like samurai. The sheer contempt for the citizen is breathtaking. They act like Japanese soldiers in occupied China.

Yeah, for the most part.

If I drove 120mph+ AND tried to elude a pursuing officer, I'd get a lot more than a "citation".

Again, we see this view of police as a superior "class" above everyone else. It's simply disgusting.
