Earlier this month, Emeryville, Calif. Police Chief Ken James argued that a gun is not a “defensive weapon” but rather an “offensive weapon used to intimidate and used to show power.”

“One issue that always boggles my mind is that the idea that a gun is a defensive weapon,” he said. “That is a myth. A gun is not a defensive weapon.”

He was speaking during a press conference promoting strict gun laws in California. James is also the chairman of the Police Chief Association’s Firearms Committee.

This guy is completely brain damaged. One could interpret that the police chief is saying that LEOs are deployed with guns in an offensive capacity to intimidate the public and to show force. Hmmm, I remember reading somewhere about the leader of a country who had the same idea. His name was Aldolf Hitler and his followers were known as Nazis and they were Jack Boot thugs.... Lets take a look at this quote. It's one of my favorites and I'll comment; “If it was a defensive measure, why did we lose 55 officers nationwide last year to gun violence? And unfortunately, in just the two months of this year so far, we have lost two officers to gun violence in the state of California alone…We are asking and have been asking for reasonable regulations, not that are going to impact the legal gun owner.”
To answer his first question - being a police officer is a dangerous job and it is inherent that they interact with criminals since the very nature of thier job is to respond and investagate crimes. Criminals do not follow the law nor do they have the same set of moral values as the averge Tom, **** and Harry. I would venture to guess that the 55 good men and women who lost their lives to "gun violence" met their end while either exchanging gunfire with a criminal or possibly friendly fire. They are not going to seperate the two for the sake of statistics. The two officers who lost thier lives this year were killed by a psychotic ex cop who managed to create his own manifesto and went on a killing spree. Next: any more regulations on the ownership of firearms IS going to impact the legal gun owner when it makes him a criminal for owing a semi auto or high cap magazine. So, I'm taking away form all of this that just because a criminal element exists in our society and it is quite possible for an individual to fly off the handle and engage in violence against police, I have to loose my 2nd amendment right.
