A few run ins with a city police officer

A few times I am at my local gun shop either buying guns or just shooting the **** there is a local police officer there. The officer keeps his hand covering the top of his gun like he is trying to hold it in place while staring at me. Sometimes I am open carrying sometimes I am not armed. I dont look like a thug or anything. I don't understand why the police officer does this everytime.

With all due respect, I think there are more important things in this world to worry about. For instance every time I go to my auto garage, the mechanic, every single time approaches me with a long wrench in his hand... Should I be concerned?

Seriously, if you really want to know ask him! Why would you ask people on this forum who aren't there, don't know you or the cop or the situation?

I'm sorry to say it, maybe I am in a bad mood tonight but what is with all the silly questions on this forum? Can one not think of anything better to post? Are we that preoccupied/paranoidnwith police that every one we see must be out to get us? I joined here for some serious discourse, and education. I am looking for questions pertaining to guns and real world carry and politics and self defense and the like. Not to be fortune telling what some cop may be thinking if he is resting his hand on his gun in a gun shop... The key word is resting. As to the OP, did he jump up and shout at you not to move too?

Lol..... You must be one paranoid individual, or you may be "guilty" of something... This has got to be the most ridiculous thread I have seen. If you want to bash Law Enforcement, I think you can come up with a better made up story then this.

I am a current LEO, and of me having my hand on top of my sidearm (which is a very nice arm rest) bothers you, I'm sooooo sorry that you are that uneasy and paranoid and frankly feel that you are a ticking bomb and SHOULD not be carrying a forearm,

Sorry if resting my arm bothers you! Go troll around somewhere else,

I'm sorry if my comment I a little "rude"! However I'm sick and tires of people trying to get a reaction from other by bashing the Law Enforcememt!

As others have Stated, He is Probably doing this, because he knows that he is getting a rise out of you.

Next time walk up to him, and polietly ask him why he does this.
No need to be sarcastic towards him. Intiminate him with respect, and Kindness.

Good luck give us the details on the Outcome.

I put my Glock 22 on an outside the waistband holster while teaching others to shoot.... As I would watch them shoot, I naturally rested my right hand on top of my holstered gun and my left hand on my left hip.

ITS COMFORTABLE!!!!!

I think stevenmetzger is just curious. Don't knock him down. If he is newbie to carrying, it is a good exercise for him to be aware of his surroundings and to notice things and situations around him. He'll get used to it...didn't you all have to start somewhere sometime.

NYMike...go back to bed. Or..if you do not like a topic, just skip it and look at some others that interests you. We all have our moments. I am at times guilty of the same when I should be in bed instead of being awake at 3am looking for something to amuse me in the middle of night. Tonight (or this morning whichever one is closer...) my excuse is that I won't be here all day because it is a school day for me. Happy day but distracting because I have tons to do here with postprocessing the photos I took at Tennessee, scanning sketches, etc.

Dont worry about him .I dont no about cops there but the ones here are rude an think there above the law an then every now in then u will see them on the range an u now no they are harmless with a gun .Dont worry about them .

Thank you very much NY Mike.

First, I'll say you are probably slightly paranoid. I'll also say I have seen lots of cops do this because as stated before, its a comfortable place to rest the hand. He probably isn't trying to intimidate you as others have stated, if he is there all the time its likely that he enjoys being there as well? Or, if he is working there as security, then his job is to look like he's ready to protect the place. Other than resting his hand on the gun, and looking at you (and probably everyone else in the place), how is his demeanor? Does he smile, and laugh and talk to others or is it all business staring people down? His demeanor should say a lot.

With all that being said... if you aren't doing anything illegal, then don't worry about it.

Heck, even if you know the cops, they still have their hands resting on them at times. Just a way of taking the load off of the shoulder.

The holsters used for LE are so bulky that they make a great handrest. I'd say just ask him. If he's a jerk when he answers you're probably right. Better yet, take a child or grandchild next time and have them ask him why he has his hand on his gun.

What would YOUR reaction be if I rested my hand on MY open carried sidearm in front of YOU when you are in uniform?

You keep eyeballin' him and he wonders why. Who cares?

Wow gkeil961, you could have saved the ink. We would have known you were a current LEO just by you a$$hole demeanor.

To the OP, the guy is definitely trying to be intimidating. Let me guess, he was about 5'5", 200lbs wearing a medium shirt over a vest.
