You will likely do much better if you locate an FFL holder in your area who is not a gun shop. Gun shops have a lot of overhead to carry and naturally want to sell their own inventory in which they have a markup. You really can't blame them for not being enthusiastic about helping you buy a gun cheaper online.

What in Gods name are you talking about. They still make their transfer fee on the sale. If a gun shop gave me attitude about doing a transfer I would tell them to piss off and take my money to a new shop. Then I would spread the word about what A-holes they are. To keep my friends and family from going through what I did. I would then write up a review online so that everyone knows how shitty their customer service is and how high their prices are. In this day and age it's so easy for the customer to burn bad companies. I have a local gun shop that does not charge a transfer fee (free no matter how many guns you order or how few) they are all about customer service. Other shops fees are $25-$35 for transfers. I'm all for buying local and supporting local businesses! But at the same time your still on a budget and if one guy is selling the firearm for over $600 and the other has it for under $500. That's more money for ammo or hell another firearm.

I havn't purchased the gun yet so he's welcome to give me a competive price and I'll buy local. I've dealth with the owner in the past and he's a square dealer. I have no problem with the guy charging me a reasonable fee for his time and service, say $25 and make sure that is not in addition to the background check fee charged with a normal handgun purchase here in Md.

I have a Walther P-99 that I'm real happy with, so I'm starting to consider the P-99C, but looking harder at the PPS because of it's concealable size.

It reminds me of buying tires online for my motorcycle and having them shipped to the shop that was going to do the labor. At first they were fine with making money charging 1 hr labor ($80)for each tire, then that wasn't enough and you had to purchase the tires from them at their marked up price. I now take the tires off myself and have them mount and balanced at a place that sells them to me a a descent price.

That's when I would start shopping around! There is always someone who is willing to do it the way you want it done. Same thing can be said about firearms!

S&WM&P40 well your very lucky to have a shop like that near you. I've seen this type of thing many times in my own line of work (automotive) but even more so with firearms. The indoor place I shoot has lots of guns for sale and sell many so their prices are near Internet prices. They are a bunch of good guys and I've bought 4 or so guns there. Well problem is it's across state lines every time I purchase a gun there I have to go to a different place because they sell so many nobody wants to do their transfers. Luckily my cwp instructor has his ffl so now I just use him.

There will always be some mom and pop store who will be willing to do the transfer for you. To them the 35 or so dollars is food on the table or gas for the car. On top of that it will end up building a re-pour and that customer may give their name to someone he knows and so on.... Around here we have some who have jacked up their prices and who rip you off when your trading in your firearms. Still some who go above and behind because they care more about taking care of the customer then money. When I'm looking for/thinking about buying a
item/service I look at it like a battle and as such get Intel and recon the store I plan on using. I look for reviews on the internet/word of mouth and so on (of both the product and the store I'm thinking about using).

I fail to see how a Glock or XD is blocky when compared to others? Glocks have "nothing" to snag on, and I have yet to have any malfunction on mine whatsover. I wonder if the mag springs and or rod springs are getting worn in both the XD and Glock, cause my G19 could care less whether it is clean or dirty. The M&P is a nice gun, although Smith sure loves their high prices. Bersa has some real nice guns, have you considered them?

Glocks are about the same price as a M&P(compact of full size). Smith and Wesson autos tend to be priced to sell it's when you get into the snubs and wheel guns they jack the prices up.

not comfortable in my hand
I have a full size Glock 22 and it fits my hand fine and shoots really well, no issues as long I use both hands. I got some fat fingers that just don't like the fit of the stubby model 26 handle, which is kinda of important when only have a two finger grip. The XD had the mag finger extension, so it was a little better, both the glock and XD just felt block like gripping it compared to the S&W M&P9c for me.

I carry an MK9. The first few days you might notice it, but with a good holster (I recommend going custom) and a quality belt, you won't notice the weight of a metal gun. I think that the extra weight makes it more pleasant to shoot than its polymer twin, the PM9, but YMMV.

I'm starting to lean towards a single stack subcompact so pocket carry is a practical option. That one looks to be around the same size as the Walther PPS that caught my eye. Looks like the Sig has the night sight opt available which I'd be interested in.

It's good to have lots of choice till you have to choose

Yeah that can make the sub-compact Glocks to be a bit hard to handle or be comfy. The M&P is a very comfy gun, I too like how it felt.
