Hard to believe 50 years have gone by. But that calendar does not lie. 22 yesterday, 72 today. April 3,1964.

A 707 to New Orleans from Miami, an ancient 20 seater to Alexandria ,Louisiana.
Then a Trailways bus to Leesville,LA , a couple hours away.

Midnight arrival at Fort Polk. Then 8 weeks of agony. But,,, I would not trade serving for the world.

Do any of you all have first day memories?

I enlisted in Dec, '67 in Battle Creek, MI. Went to Ft. Wayne, Detroit. My stepdad gave me $3.00 for food for a couple days. Bus to the airport and flew to Louisville, KY. First time on a plane. They were overloaded, so we ate and were bussed to Campbell. I was one of four "U.S.'s" in my company. Time do fly, doesn't it?

Sept 1957 flew to SanDiego (MCRD) from Pueblo, Colorado, stopping everywhere on the way, for 12 weeks of boot.

Thank you all for your service.

My memories were picking up a plane in Pittsburgh International Airport to San Antonio, TX and then a bus to Lackland AFB in Mar 1990. Arrived there about 11pm to be greeted by what seemed one very large, tall, and angry TI.

Thank you! Those are always big, tall and in a bad temper guys! But somehow most of us managed to make it through!

But again, I don't believe that we would trade the experience for anything in the world. The very best thing I have ever done, with no doubt . And no regrets.
