An upcoming patriotic program – 2nd or None: A Celebration of Liberty – began as a result of a conversation between Chris Barrett and David Yancy. Chris and his sister, Angela Barrett, own The Outpost Armory, a retail store for guns, ammo and gear at Exit 89 on Interstate 24 near Murfreesboro. Yancy is founder of the Tennessee Gun Owners web community.

Barrett and Yancy were discussing gun legislation passed this year by the Tennessee General Assembly, Second Amendment rights guaranteed under the United States Constitution, and the surge of interest in gun ownership. Both men agreed that something should be done to further encourage and support those who are working to preserve and protect gun rights. They concluded that a celebration would be in order on Saturday, October 17 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The Outpost Armory owns approximately 20 acres of green space near the business location at Interstate 24 and Exit 89, which is a good location for a family-oriented, free-to-the-public rally. From that initial conversation, plans are now coming together for an event that is expected to attract well over a 1,000 from throughout Tennessee who want to show support for gun rights. In addition to The Outpost Armory and The Tennessee Gun Owners, it is sponsored by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing.

Local, state and national leaders from all sides of the political aisle are scheduled to attend and speak about preserving the Second Amendment. Friends of the National Rifle Association are helping to promote it statewide. Regional and even international media have indicated an interest in covering the rally.

In addition to patriotic music and speeches, children will be treated to inflatable slides and jumps, a petting zoo, face painting, and a climbing wall. Food will also be available. Some members of the Rutherford County Volunteer Fire Department will have an engine and some of their equipment on site for viewing and for safety.

While it is labeled a not-for-profit, proceeds will benefit the Junior ROTC shooting teams in the Rutherford County high schools.

Organizer Chris Barrett commented that without the Second Amendment, citizens would not be able to defend themselves, which would render the Constitution and the other amendments a moot issue.
