1st day concealed carrying!

Good morning everyone. I have been here for a while, learning and soaking in all the info I can. It's a great group of people here.

I applied for my CWFL last Wednesday, the 24th, and received it in the mail yesterday. 8 days total for turnaround! Very impressed.

Today is my first day carrying. It is comforting to know that, no longer am I one of the sheep. I have been mentally preparing for this for quite some time, and the day is finally here. Hopefully I'll never have a need to use it, but I'll be ready if I do.

Thanks for letting me share that.

Have a great day.

Good for you! ALWAYS do so safely. I hope by your actions and a quiet manner you may influence any friends that know or find out you carry to do the same. Continue training and practice shooting along with practicing SAFE gun handling.

Congrats. Just remember "Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician" - Jeff Cooper

Training, it's a good thing.

Thanks for the advice. I have been shooting for several years and understand training is VERY important. I was once told "you fight like you train, so train like you fight." If things go bad, what to do should be automatic.

I will continue to train and become as capable and proficient as I can be.

Congrats! You may now defend your life away from home (with a gun) and not be prosecuted for having a concealed handgun. Funny, isn't it, that we have to lick boots and pay the gov't for a right that is already on the books...

Congratulations to you! Always remember the '21 foot rule'.
~Be careful out there and stay safe.~

Congrats

One word. Not everyone is comfortable with you having a gun. Respect others choice not to carry. It is there right. Keep it low key and quiet until you know how someone else feels.remember 99.9999% of the time your just another civilian thoughbeit more prepaired than most.

Absolutely Larry. Thanks for that. Most of my circle of friends are pro 2nd amendment, but I do realize not everyone likes the idea of a civilian having a firearm.

So - where have you gone so far? Have you done "the Walmart Walk" yet? :) I think that's one of the first things most people do when they first start carrying.

it was a stop for coffee this morning, then to work, but it stays in the car for work. I have a lot of errands to run tonight with my wife though. Not sure i'll intentionally do the wally walk, but I will be going to a big box store and doing some shopping.

Great news on your 1st day. I had the same feeling January 3rd 2012, when I got my Wisconsin CCL. Tempered slightly, because it was a permit for something I should have already been allowed to do. It is a great feeling exercising our 2nd Amendment right.

The best advice I can give to a new carrier is to never tell anyone! Once you tell someone, you can never take it back, and you never know when it might come back to bite you. Concealed means concealed!
Nuff said,
Hawk

Good Advice

This has been great to read. I applied fro my sccwp almost 3 weeks ago. Patiently waiting for it to come in the mail. What's the Wal-Mart walk?

It took almost forever for my wife and I to get our SCCWP. I carry mine everyday, although I have to remove it due to my work. I'm a Hospice nurse and so I am in and out of hospitals and medical facilities. But, it is always with me, either on me or in my car. So glad we finally got ours!
