1st alleged violent shooting by Illinois Concealed Carry Licensee...

So yesterday there was an incident that the Chicago Police are calling a murder suicide, and police chief McCarthy (AKA McStreetlight) was quick to point out that the alleged shooter has a concealed carry license. This is the first such incident in Illinois since licenses to carry a concealed firearm were first issued in early 2014.

The anti gun crowd is quick to point out that they told us so. However there have been multiple defensive gun uses in Illinois by concealed carry licensees, some of which have not been reported by the media, but are discussed among the pro gun crowds in Illinois. Also there are over 100,000 licensees in Illinois, so statistically those who have concealed carry licenses are very safe.

Two links about the issue:

All shootings are violent so I'm wondering why the redundant article title.

And 500 deaths in Chicago last year from illegal guns. No one seems to care if the hood is armed and murdering each other. Obama's old senate district is among the most violent. Th silence is deafening.

More media bastardization of a single event. The liberal idiots in that city lost their minds years ago. My mother lived there years ago, and got out because of the BS then.

Disagree, not all shootings are violent. Most shootings by the law abiding are defensive. They are not the same.
Violent does not mean unlawfull.

Violent does not mean offencive.

Violent means use of phisical force. Check your local dictionary.

Literaly every round fired is violence.

If a person isn't willing to "commit an act of violence" to defend themselves and be a "gunman" or a "shooter" then they should not be carrying a gun for self protection.....

This happened in the Loop, the central business district of Chicago. This seems to be the first homicide in the Loop this year. The rest of Chicago had 297 this year so far (251 by firearm). In contrast to other cities, Chicago's homicide trend is on par with last year's. More information can be found at: heyjackass.com.

I have a different definition of violence. If I defend myself or my family, I do not consider it violent. It is an act of compassion, not an act of violence.

I agree. You've reacted to violence directed at you or another. I would never raise a hand in anger to anyone. But don't make me have to defend my family.

Personal definitions are invalid. We have dictionaries for a reason. Using phisical force to defend yourself is violence. All gun use is violence because a gun applies phisical force.

You're right. My law dictionary defines "violent" as characterized or caused by violence; severe; assailing the person (and metaphorically, the mind) with a great degree of force. It defines "actual violence" as an assault with physical force put in action, exerted upon the person assailed. The term violence is synonymous with physical force, and the two are used interchangeably in relation to assaults.

Exactly, phisical force put into action. When you use a gun in self defence you are putting phisical force into action.

Thank you for proving that "gun violence" is a redundant term.

Ya know, only because you want to argue about dictionaries.... I corrected your spelling.

Words are very subjective. I am done with this thread unless anyone has anything intelligent to say about the actual topic rather than argue about non sense.

Those were idiots from years ago. Now we have different idiots there, ones who will likely never lose their minds: you see, in order to lose something, one has to have it first...
Hopefully, not all cops are like him (CPD chief). Another one comes to mind is C(r)ook County sheriff...
To stay more on the topic, one of most effective ways to fight - non-violently - this attitude is by a) keep calm stating our position while discussing this and related issues, b) educate the masses by real accounts of successful self-defense stories, and c) refer them to chicagogunsmith for educated opinion and instruction, I have heard he is a very good educator on the matter

I think most anti-gun folks won't change their opinion. As you say different idiots but same mentality.

I agree about most, but have personally converted some. Just like "making the world a better place, one good deed at a time"
