I always wondered why my drive was so high. Must be all of the watermelon I eat along with that darn Trident melon flavored gum that I chew. ;)

Donut joke

You never know what kind of day an officer's had (real bad guys/supervisors/dog's chasing him on his bike/wife/ex-wife/bills, etc, etc) before you try out your little joke and, please, remember, officers are just human. I'm a retired Trooper and I can say that there are lots of other things on our minds, even when we stop for a quck donut. When will I be able to get another donut? Will I get run over by an idiot in a car or be shot to death by a criminal before I can get that next donut? Hey, the next time you see him you might want to buy him a donut.

Nope, can't do that. for one, if we do due to the department regulations they could be chastised for accepting
"favors." For another (at least in these parts) they would be thinking you want special attention and favors even if the purchase is just an innocuous thank you for doing the service you do. In either case it shouldn't matter, but it does.

As for the cop wondering when he will get another doughnut, or when will I get run over or shot by some idiot;
With those thoughts on their minds---not dissimilar to those very thoughts of those visiting this forum during any given day---they ought to take up the standard of If this is my last doughnut then I am going to enjoy i! In fact if this is what they think they should start acting like the rest of us who all have those same worries---shrug it off, throw a joke back, smile, after all it is just a joke and life is meant to be lived and enjoyed not stamped out through vindictive harboring of grudges against those whom you purport to defend. If you want their respect then treat them right and joke with them. Will it hurt? No! May it help if your life is on the line--it very well may!

Everyone has problems and/or "issues" in the daily course of life. I offered the cop a doughnut and he didn't seem to happy about it. I make fun of the guy or anything, simply asked "you want one" out of the box I just bought.

Like "BikerRN" stated earlier, these young "Robocop" types will eventually learn and become "Cops".

He could have at least had a sense of humor about it. At my security job, people always comment any time they see me sitting down and say that they wish they had my job, seeming to suggest that I don't do much. I usually reply good naturedly, "Be careful what you wish for." They usually end up laughing and so do I. If I took offense every time someone made a joke, I'd be a constantly gloomy person.

irony: being run over ... by the doughnut truck .....

Hey some LEO's still have a sence of humor ... and some never had one ...

Yes they are people ....

I bet more of them look at more of us as a threat than we look at them as doghnut lovers....

Crap I am bored

In their line of work they should have a "cool head" and not be "insulted" when someone offers them a tasty treat. They should be trained to evaluate the "whole situation" before making a judgment. I realize that LEO are human and have feelings like the average citizen. The cops in both situations should have handled themselves a little better.
I gather your point is that they should not be so thinned skinned. If so I agree wholeheartedly but would take it a bit further and say your point is relevant for human beings generally. That in the absence of overt malice there is not reason to get offended for no reason. You made a very good point IMO
That said though I do not agree with the gist of ishi's post which I read as justifying the LEO inappropriate responce he did simply compare two well known stereo types to make his point. One of the stereo type is considered racist but neither his post or his point was racist. It was a valid comparison IMO.
By being offended by it really contradicted your own post. Just a thought not meant to offend you at all.

For the record, I wasn't offended. Simply felt that the analogy was inappropriate. BTW, I'm not black.

If the analogy was not offensive to you than what is the problem? How is it inappropriate if it is not offensive? Not black. Red? Brown? Just curious as it seems that some white folks are more defensive than people of color about these lame stereo types. Regardless not to drag this out. There was no malice in the OPs comments, just as there was no malice in the analogy but in both cases folks opted to take it wrong. Why? All I am saying is donuts, watermelon, fried chicken, beans, or rice what ever lighten up who cares why let any of it bother you

With all of the words in the English language, I would think that folks could be more creative and come up with analogies that your average Joe could possibly percieve as "racist". Keep in mind that there are a lot of "anti-gun" types on the web. I have no doubt that there are some of them who visit this and other pro 2A sites. Do you want to give them ANY ammunition to use against in the future?

Be VERY careful of what you post on the web. You never know when it may come back an haunt you at a later date. With technology, there are ways of finding out stuff that you never imagined possible. I've seen first hand how close personal friends got into trouble because of what they posted on the web.

What may not be offensive to you may offend the members of the jury who are deciding your fate in a criminal or civil case.

Different points of view are what makes America a great place to live. You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine.

I editted my previous post, on page two I think.

The reason I posted the comment is because I think it would do a lot as far as making Robocops more human, like the rest of us, instead of thinking they are "All That and A Bag of Chips". Sorry, but the Badge and gun don't mean squat.

What matters is how you conduct yourself. Also, you can't take yourself too seriously all the time. I should know, I'm an anal retentive Type A personality. :)

Thats pretty sad when grown men can't take a joke, obviously they felt a little guilty or else they wouldn't have gotten all bent outta shape.:triniti:
