Ammo Shortage ?

Michigan is out as well gang. I found two boxes of .40 the other day at Walmarts. Guy said they got the shipment in three hours before I arrived and I got the last two boxes of handgun ammo. One guy purchased all the 9mm they had

I never thought i'd see the day when you have to "know" someone at WalMart for the inside scoop on when ammunition is delivered to the store, but it's came to that in eastern kentucky and probably most other places too. Some independent gun stores keep it in stock ok but forget WalMart. The Sporting Good clerk at my local WalMart told me the last time they got a shipment of 9mm, they got 15 boxes of 50 rounds each and one guy bought every box. Why they are not limiting how much one customer can buy in order to make it more available to others, i'm not sure. I'm literally down to one mag of 9 mm and that is what my carry weapon uses. I'm going out of town on some business in a couple of days and hopefully i can find some then.

Walmart here in Vegas is now limiting purchases of ammo to two boxes per customer per day...

They STILL have no ammo on the shelf for more then a few hours...

have not found anybody whom sells new or reloaded ammo or reloading supplies in Vegas that has any common handgun, rifle ammo on the shelf at any price...

Now I know why the DHS is buying up millions of rounds of ammo and releasing studies saying people that oppose the tyranny of our own government are terrorists...

they are preparing for civil unrest...

besides being more then $5.00 a box more then what it was a month ago at walmart, how much is your shipping and orm hazardous shipping premium for this order? in other words what is your total actual cost to your front door?

I think it is fear of high prices and taxation. The order of SIN TAXES are Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ammo/gunpowder too):cray:

I remember when the first weapons ban came and prices skyrocketed! My 10/22 with a 30 round magazine was considered an assault weapon. At least they didn't think of ammunition accountability back then. If that fails I'm sure they'll go after gun powder but then they'll rattle the agricultural communities. When you attack a farmer's fertilizer you're in a heap of trouble!

I checked 5 stores today and all but Walmart had most types of ammo. Walmart was low on everything. my favorite stops all had 45, 40, 38, 357 etc. The shelves are full!

I have 8 boxes of Winchester White box 9mm target (100/box) plus a selection of defensive ammo, and a good supply of 38 spcl and 357 that I got at Wally World a box or 2 at a time, so I guess I'm guilty of hoarding. I don't worry so much about temporary shortages too much, but what I do worry about are major price increases or taxes so high as to make recreational shooting prohibitive. I'll continue to keep picking up a box or two when I can.
Also I'm going to the CNY gun show tomorrow. I'll be interested to see what the situation is there.

Bohemian

Shipping was $15.00 so that adds another $3.00 per box to the cost now we are up to $23.00 per box.

I guess if I am going to do alot of shooting I will use my 22 cal. Rugar.

Thanks but the prices are ridiculous. None of the stores near me have 9, 45 or any other common ammo on the shelf. Why aren't the manufacturers ramping up production? I think it's more than just a demand story. Post the story when it breaks.

Nationwide ammo shortage is only going to get worse...

Between DHS buying millions of rounds of ammo, while preparing for civil descent, (new declaration of independence) they are also contributing (or causing) the ammunition shortage...

And Gun Ban Obama & Company trying to run CIFTA thorough Congress... If ratified and the U.S. is found not to be in compliance with any provisions of the treaty -- such as a provision that would outlaw reloading ammunition without a government license (and draconian compliance such as micro stamping, no-lead, etc.,) -- President Obama would be empowered to implement regulations without Congressional approval.

Average price of Ammo is 30-70 dollars a box for plinking ammo...

I just bought some powder for double what I paid for it a month ago...

If anybody can take their camcorder into any ammo store and show me shelves full of common hand gun and or common rifle ammo I would like to see it, cause in Nevada and every where else in the country it appears that is certainly not the case, nor will it be the case for the foreseeable future...

Consider this, any firearms instructor worth his salt recommends a minimum of 200 rounds per month per firearm, you wish to remain proficient with...
so... 2400 rounds a year for just ONE firearm per individual, at last count their was more registered firearms in the country then people (not counting illegal aliens)... 300 million plus...

720,000,000,000.00 Seven Hundred And Twenty Billion Rounds of Ammo A Year...

SO, how many besides myself have in excess of 2400 rounds per firearm they wish to remain proficient with in their possession right now?

Or how about this, if all non-micro stamped, and unregistered ammo was banned today, or you could not buy another bullet for 4 years; and you had to hunt for what ever food was on your table, because none was on the grocery store shelves thanks to Gun Ban Obama & Company's Socialism, and gangs of 10-20 armed individuals (With banned machine guns and semi-autos, law abiding citizens were not allowed to own) were going from house to house taking what you had by force (just like happened following Hurricane Katrina) how long would your ammo last?

Finish the Fence already

I watched this biased piece of uber-liberal, ultra-left-wing-nut-job second amendment trashing...

AND Greta once again showed her one-sided biased view and that of the BATFE's and nothing remotely resembling FAIR AND BALANCED reporting that we would expect from FOX NEWS...

I highly recommend everybody write Greta and Fox News and complain about Greta & Geraldo's continued ANTI-FIREARM & ANTI-SECOND AMENDMENT BIAS...

AND DEMAND FAIR AND BALANCED SHOWS, that in this case would include someone from the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners Of America, and the Second Amendment Foundation...

I am sick to death of the Media & Gun Ban Obama and Company's Administration trying to stack the deck on public opinion to justify another draconian Gun & Ammo Ban and Second Amendment infringement(s) of said unalienable rights...

Solution:
1. Mexico needs to admit they have a Northern Border, instead of denying it; AND ENFORCE IT.
2. America needs to enforce our Southern Border and build the Duncan Hunter style fence across our entire Southern Border already funded by Congress.
3. America needs to impose mandatory draconian fines and prison sentences for Employers and Property Owners, that employ, rent, lease, sell to Illegal Aliens.
4. America needs to stop bailing out banks like "Bank of America" that give lines of credit, credit cards and bank accounts to Illegal Aliens.
5. America needs to prosecute officials of State, County, City and other Municipalities that refuse to enforce our Nations Immigration Laws, like California and New York...

Good post, someone in the know, thanks. This ammo shortage is way more than a demand issue. wtf is going on? One of these days the story is going to break. Our rights are being stipped away from us and this country is becoming something I don't recognize. We need to take it back, I'm pissed off and don't tell me to calm down.

I think Mexico does recognize a northern border between them and the US. The problem is, we think that border is south of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Commiefornia. They think the border is NORTH of Oklahoma, Colorado, Nevada, and Commiefornia.

We could outfit two armys

By Bob Unruh
© 2009 WorldNetDaily

Guns purchased legally in the United States this year could outfit two armies and not just any armies, the armies of China and India, according to new government reports cited by a website for sport-shooting enthusiasts.

The federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System database statistics show there were more than 3.7 million background checks during the first three months of this year, compared to about 8 million annually not even a decade ago, according to the documentation assembled by Ammoland.com.

That's not individual guns, that's background checks, the organization pointed out. If a purchaser obtains two, three or even four guns at a time, often there is only one background check.

"You also bought 1,529,635,000 rounds of ammunition in just the month of December. Yeah, that is right, that is billion with a 'b.' This number takes no account of reloading or reloaded ammunition," the report said.

According to the Global Security website, the Indian army is estimated to have about 1 million soldiers. A news report from several years ago estimated the Chinese army at 1.7 million, although recent estimates put that at 2.25 million.

Here is a table documenting the federal gun background checks by month:

Federal statistics on gun background checks

The report cites the quote from Admiral Isoruko Yamamota, a World War II leader for Japan, who said, "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

The report said the evaluation on firearms and ammunition purchases are "based on low end numbers."

"The numbers presented are only PART of the overall numbers of arms and ammunition that have been sold. The actual numbers are much higher."

That's because no private individual-to-individual sales would be included, and there's no assessment of how many guns are purchased through each background check.

"Law abiding citizens appear to be concerned about our 'right to own and bear arms,'" said one forum page participant.

The statistics show that U.S consumers sought 3.1 million gun background checks every three months last year, for an annual total of 12.7 million. The annual averages had been about 8.4 million for a number of recent years, but there was a surge starting last October, when check requests rose suddenly from 970,000 a month to nearly 1.2 million. Totals have remained at that higher level.

The answer is finally here to the real reason why guns and church must mix!

Another forum participant added, "It's logical that gun sales took sharp upturn. The concern is that the super majority of Democrats in Washington will make firearms either harder to obtain or outright contraband. . As for myself, I have all the weapons I could possibly need, so I've just been stocking up on ammo because I think ammo will be subject to new regulations and increased taxes under this president and Congress."

Steve Sanetti, the head of a shooting sports organization, said, "Americans concerned about their ability to purchase many types of home defense, hunting and target shooting firearms in the future are continuing to purchase these products in record numbers today."

WND reported that the usually liberal 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms is "deeply rooted in this nation's history and tradition" and long has been regarded as the "true palladium of liberty," so it therefore must be applied against state and local government weapon restrictions as well as federal gun limits.

But the decision appears to run counter to the general direction sought by the administration of President Obama three months into his tenure.

He's already advocated for a treaty that would require a federal license for hunters to reload their ammunition, has expressed a desire to ban "assault" weapons, has seen a plan to require handgun owners to submit to mental health evaluations and sparked a rush on ammunition purchases with his history of anti-gun positions.

Obama also supported the handgun ban in Washington, D.C., before it was tossed out last year by the Supreme Court.

Is this true?

Ammo

Georgia Arms is the 5th largest retailer of .223 Ammo in America . They sell 9mm, .45, .223 ammunition. They normally buy spent brass from the US Department of Defense. Spent brass is "one time used" shell cases used by our Military for training purposes.
They buy the brass, recondition it, and then reload the brass for resale to Law Enforcement, Gun Clubs, Gun Shops, and stores like Wal-Mart. They normally buy 30,000 lbs of spent brass at a time.

This week the D.o.D wrote a letter to the owner of Georgia Arms and informed him that from now on the D.o.D will be destroying the spent brass, shredding it. It will no longer be available to the ammo makers, unless they buy it in a scrap shredded condition (which they have no use for). The shredded brass is now going to be sold by the D.o.D to China as scrap metal, after the D.o.D pays for it to be shredded. The D.o.D is selling the brass to China for less money than the ammo makers have been paying, plus the D.o.D has to pay to have the brass shredded and do the accounting paperwork.

This sure helps the economy now doesn't it? Sell cheaper to China , and do not sell at all to a proven US business. Any hidden agenda working here? Obama going after the Firearms Industry and our ammunition!

The Georgia Arms owner even related a story that one of his competitors had already purchased a load of brass last week. The D.o.D contacted him this week and said they were sending someone over to make sure it was destroyed. Shell cases he had already bought!

The brass has no value to the ammo maker if it is destroyed/shredded/melted. The ammo manufacturer only uses the empty brass cases to reload different calibers, mainly .223 bullets.

The owner of Georgia Arms says that he will have to lay off at least half of his 60 workers, within 2-3 months if the D.o.D will no longer sell spent brass cases to the industry. Georgia Arms has 2-3 months of inventory to use, by summer they're out.

If the Reloading Industry has to purchase new manufacture brass cases, then the cost of ammunition will double or even triple, plus Obama want to add a 500% tax on each shell.

You can read the information and see the D.o.D letter to Georgia Arms here:
