Beautiful...Bush is such a model person. He's not perfect but at least he tries his best and he is very sincere, just as much I like his mom.

That's the least he can do for those men. Again, it has been one of the greatest honors of my life serving with the men and women I have in OEF.

Thank you guys, you'll never be forgotten.

I don't want to offend. I'll say that George W. Bush was respectable and gave the office respect, unlike rockstar President Obama. However, he was not served well by his Neoconservative advisors, Karl Rove top of the list. Neocons are not much different than Socialists if you concentrate on their results and ignore their jingoism - they are "big government, period.

Please consider:
President George W. Bush harmed us greatly, financially and in liberty.
*executive orders (i.e., circumventing Congress) = 291 2001-2009
*Department of Education more than doubled during W. Bush tenure
*first president since WWII who presided over an economy that hired more federal employees than the private sector's hiring of employees
*first president to promote minority home financing knowing that low to no credit integrity would still qualify minorities to get loans - in other words tossing out the door the rules that the rest of hard working Americans have to abide by, still to this day -
refer to Fannie And Freddie - thus fueling the already running economy-collapsing engine
*completely unnecessary Iraq War - hundreds of billions of our dollars without anything to show for it except an open door for Iran to move in - which it's doing
*completely unnecessary Afghanistan War - it should have been more surgical-strike driven than a sweeping war of occupation - and oh yeah, more hundreds of billions of our dollars without anything to show for it except a salivating Taliban awaiting our announced exit
*Patriot Act - nothing patriotic about it - I call it the dormant bonfire into which the U.S. Constitution will be thrown and Obama will probably be the one to open those particular pages in the more than 300 page liberty-stealing document which includes the ability of the Feds to "sneak and peak" into anybody's home or property and plant monitoring devices then leave making it look like a burglary - and oh yeah, the "Act" contains provisions to suspend the Constitution - all in the name of and under the guise of, protection.

So, Obama is only worse than George W because he exploited the incredible damage created by his predecessor. We've been sold out for a long time by a series of presidents and congresses. It's our own fault. We've been dazed with entertainment and form over substance when we should have been more sober and involved in the everyday affairs in all levels of government. Instead, we gave token attention to our demise only when elections drew close. Our kids are graduating from high school with a third grade understanding of American history but are experts naming American Idol participants ... and on. We slept while both parties heaped more laws upon us choking free enterprise and essential liberties. We played while our Congress hid economic and liberty-killing bills under quaint and palatable names like, Patriot Act and Clean Energy Act. We allowed lobbyists to become more substantive to politicians than are we but simultaneously swallowed the "form over substance" they swapped for truth. We're responsible for an America already running off the track.
Corrupt government is America's fault and it started in the home - when moms left home to work and allowed public schools to assume child-rearing. Corrupt government got worse when we drank the labor union koolaid that tax-paid government workers need to be organized. Because of this single infringement on tax paying citizens, many cities, counties and states are bankrupt from paying outlandish pensions to retired tax payer-funded government workers.
America is dying because we felt a need to find an "expert" behind every tree before making a decision - we lost common sense and trust in our own empiracle knowledge. Our courts are slaves to the psychiatry industry in dealing with heinous criminals allowing them a way out and mitigated sentences. The world laughs at our back-breaking atempts to appear fair with the criminal at the victims' expense.
America is terminally ill because we're infactuated with multiculturalism. We're so in need of "being liked." But really, nations are not unlike families which thrive with commonality and unified purpose. Multiculturalism is the antithesis of national unity but we find sophisticated ways to believe the lie and propaganda of multiculturalism.
America's demise won't go away with an election.

I'm sorry that I edited most of your post, but I could not let this lie pass.

Under Bush, many, many attempts were made to STOP the already loathsome practice of lending money to people who could not pay it back. It was begun under Mr. Bush's predecessor, Mr. Clinton, under the advisement of Representative Barney Frank and Senator Christopher Dodd. It was their collective opinion that everyone was "entitled" to achievement of the "American Dream" - to own a house. So they forced lenders to make undocumented loans.

Every time Mr. Bush tried to increase regulation of the out-of-control lending, he was soundly defeated in Congress. Bush made several attempts to reign-in Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac but was unsuccessful because they were defended by the "gruesome twosome" cited above. They kept telling everyone that "everything is perfectly sound, financially, at the two institutions" when it was going south. They reminded me of Baghdad Bob saying that the Iraqis were defeating the Americans while in the background, the city of Baghdad burned.

I didn't agree with many of Bush's policies and I despised his expansion of the Department of Education, his immigration policy, and his invasion of our privacy rights with the Patriot Act. In case of the latter, though, let's not forget that we were attacked on September 11, 2001 and SOMETHING had to be done to catch more potential terrorists. THAT single event caused much of the hated government expansion under Bush, so let's not forget that circumstances sometimes dictate our actions. It didn't matter WHO was president at the time - our spending was going to increase at a rapid rate.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Hurricane Katrina. Many people just don't understand that Bush was ready to send-in federal troops immediately, but the governor refused. Not once, but many times. The governor and mayor of New Orleans were completely responsible for the aftermath, not the President. And lets face it, the citizens of New Orleans aren't exactly model citizens. Look at their city now - it is still a complete shambles. But when you look at Alabama and Mississippi who were also hit with the same hurricane, they are completely rebuilt. The difference is very stark. The areas hit by the hurricane in Alabama and Mississippi were not the welfare state that was New Orleans. People in/from New Orleans (the welfare recipients) are still waiting for SOMEONE else to solve their problems, build them new houses, clear away the wreckage, and send them money and food. Then they complain to someone from 20/20 or some other liberal "news" program that the government is responsible for their plight. Hogwash.

I don't mind people hating Bush - it is their prerogative. But at least you should get some facts straight.

I'm sorry for the rant. It is really not directed at you. But your citation of the mortgage meltdown was simply 100% incorrect. Bush may have been President when everything went south, but he really tried to stop it. Maybe he didn't try hard enough, but at least he tried. It was Clinton and his democratic cronies that started the mess to begin with.

And so it goes...

As an addendum to my comments above, I point the readers to a speech given by President Clinton concerning the expansion of credit to people who otherwise could not qualify for a mortgage. Read his entireLink Removed.

About 2/3rd of the way through the speech, he makes the following statements:

"The Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 requires that banks and thrifts meet the credit needs of the entire community in which they do business. And while the CRA has played an important role in making credit available to underserved urban and rural communities, I think we would all admit that it hasn't lived up to its potential. The current enforcement system relies too much on public relations documentation and not enough on real lending performance. (Applause.)

This has been a pain for everybody involved -- too much paperwork for the banks and not enough investment for the communities. That's why I am sending a memorandum to the four federal banking regulators that requires them to implement a series of reforms around CRA -- designed to increase investment in communities that need it, while simultaneously streamlining and clarifying the regulatory process. The policy will be good for banks, good for communities, good for borrowers, and it represents real change."

This was the impetus of the "Financial Services Modernization Act", passed in 1999, which repealed major portions of the Glass-Steagall Act (that prohibited banks from engaging in anything other than banking business, such as investment and insurances services). Let me also point-out that the original Community Reinvestment Act was sponsored and implemented by Jimmy Carter.

He may not have been the brightest president, but I had a lot of respect for him because of his attitudes towards the men and women in uniform that I served with. A few years ago, they were asking my company (at Fort Benning) for volunteers to have lunch with him. I raised my hand and was subsequently shot down by my 1SG ("Put your hand down SSG Sampson...you're not going")
